Which are you?!?!
My son just called--one of those phone calls I receive now and then from both of my kids when they are at the grocery store with some 'family recipe' in hand that they need to question. Generally, like tonight, they are preparing a meal for a 'special occasion' for someone they value, and I love it that the perfect 'gift' to them is to share a traditional meal they prepare themselves. What makes this even more 'valuable' is that the recipes are 'secret' to 'non-family' members, according to 'Granny' or whomever passed them along to us. Tonight my son was going over the ingredients and instructions for spaghetti sauce from his Italian side of the family. He's thinking of tackling homemade ravioli himself. Today is his roommate's birthday, so he's doing the cooking in his honor.
At Thanksgiving, my daughter called from the grocery holding family recipes and kept me on the line while she chose a turkey and selected all the other indgredients, like sweet potatoes, for her feast--the first time for her to prepare this meal on her own. She even kept me on speaker phone while she and I cooked together that day. We took *pics and traded them online so that we felt as though we truly 'shared' our respective meals (*note to Di--share the pics).
Times such as these DO touch my heart and mean more than the kids can imagine. So, while I may primarily be the 'pursuer', there are some things in life that make me abundantly happy!!!
